    Asian Hornet Watch

It is important to report any suspected sighting of Asian hornets as soon as possible.

Vigilance is particularly required in southern parts of England and Wales and around major ports.  The Asian hornet is active mainly between April and November and is inactive over the winter.

For quick identification, please download the Asian Hornet Watch app on either iPhone or Android free of charge.

Our Aims

The Aims of the Asian Hornet Action Team are to:

  1. Increase the numbers of people working on each case of incursion to assist Bee Inspectors who are thin on the ground.
  2. Get ahead of the game while waiting for formal identification of an incursion by Non-Native Species Secretariat and the National Bee Unit.
  3. Give local beekeepers and public some reassurance and confidence that the hornets are being dealt with sooner rather than later.
  4. Educate members of the British Beekeepers’ Association and the general public in the identification and risk of the Asian Hornet (Vespa velutina) as our colleagues in Jersey are doing successfully.
